Star Wars Transformer Magna Guard

One of the best cross overs in toy brands is the Star Wars Transformers crossover. These are just the Star Wars vehicles seen in the movies given the ability to transform into a robot. A truly smart move by Hasbro. My friend Hsunami Prime did a review of one and had a favorable impression of it. That piqued my curiosity and after buying a Magna Guard fighter for him as a present, I soon succumbed to that curiosity and opened the toy.

All in all it's pretty solid as a Transformer toy. It's simple and prone to some parts popping out, but very efficient in transforming into it's fighter mode. The parts are all flushed and fit in nicely and the weapons storage in fighter mode is very impressive. The robot mode is pretty good, but I had one major issue with it. The head isn't painted silver like it's chest.


That's quite annoying to me and so I thought of painting it silver since I had the paint. Before that though, I noticed that the back of the hands could use some painting while I was at it.

So, first up was painting the head silver. I went all out and painted the entire head silver, even the eyes.


Once the silver was dry I painted the eyes gold and the stripe on the top of its head gold to match. Then I thought that the missiles on it's shoulders would look good with gold tips. I then painted those gold and put a silver base below the it as an accent.



I then painted the back of the hands gold to match the color scheme. While I was at it I painted the tips of the missiles in its guns gold, but ran out of paint then.

Now the cool thing about the missiles on its shoulders is that it forms his staff. With the tips painted gold, it adds to the look of the staff once formed.


Of course in fighter mode, the gold stands out and adds to it's overall look.


So there it is, my Magna Guard transformer. Since it was meant as a present for my friend, I went and bought another one before I hung out with him. When I did, I told him to compare the one I painted with the normal one and choose which one to keep. Of course he took the one that I painted like I'd hope. I was then able to go home and happily paint the second one. All in all it was just a simple modification but, it added a lot to the Magna Guard toy.

ROTF Sunstorm part 2

The start of this project wasn't all that good. In my previous post about this, I primed it with gray primer. It was the first time I ever used that color primer and I didn't know the effects it would have nor the difficulty that I'd faced painting it yellow. So, today I started over by using white primer which is my favorite. Below, you can see that it's masked to prevent the black parts that I painted from being primed and the rest is white.

I then base painted the whole thing in Tamiya Lemon Yellow starting from the tail fins and onwards to the nose.

Afterwards, I did a quick wash to smooth it out and to see how the paint would settle once dried.

It's looking much better than my previous attempt and this teaches me a lesson on when to use gray primer. The next step is to prime the legs, since I forgot to do those, and painting it in it's robot mode so that I can get the spots I missed when it was in jet mode.

ROTF Sunstorm re-paint WIP

While out and about hunting for TF's I happened upon a ROTF Thrust. I have the figure already and I quite liked the mold so I thought that a re-paint into Sunstorm would be pretty cool.

Here's how it looked after I primed it. This is also the first time I'm using grey primer so it'll be a good experience.

Here's how it looks after I started the first couple of coats of the yellow and black. I'm using tamiya acrylics for the paint as usual. It's still not done as more coats are needed and details will be then added. So far, it's turning out well.

ROTF Prime re-paint

When I first bought the new Leader Class Optimus Prime, I thought it was a very good toy. It was much better than the first leader prime toy and the transformation from truck to robot and back is brilliant. However, after messing around and playing with Prime I noticed that the color isn't movie accurate. So after researching and comparing the movie cg with the toy, I decided to re-paint to make it more movie accurate.

I started off by experimenting by painting just the right side. I used a silver chrome acrylic and it looks shiny.

Here's a close look. So far not bad. It'll look better after the clear coat.

Here's a closer look at the leg. The gold looks real good for the detail part of the joints. I'm going for a metallic blue and red for the other details. So that's it for now and I don't know when I'll be able to continue this project. I've got other customs I'm doing, so this has taken a back seat for now.

ROTF Leader Starscream

Seibertron.com posted a pic of the back of the packaging of leader class ROTF Starscream.

That's looking pretty good. I might have to get that one when it comes out. Of course, I'll need to see some reviews first and/or see it in person for the final consideration.

New Transformers Toys

Just saw this over on Seibertron.com and I'm happy to see some new molds that actually looks good. First up is the Human Alliance Barricade.


This one I might get since I like the Saleen Mustang design. Now on the the good stuff.


Voyager class Mindwipe is a good looking piece. I can see some potential in repainting this as a proper soundwave movie toy. The scout class Skystalker can attach to Mindwipe kinda like a minicon.


Then there's deluxe class Brawn. This one has hints of his G1 color scheme and it looks good. I've been wanting a Brawn and this one will definitely do. Painting it more G1 would be cool.


And then there's another TFA Lockdown toy. This one seem to be in TFmovie styling and looks better than the original Lockdown toy. I think I'll be getting this one.


There's also a deluxe class Ratchet coming out, but I already have the voyager class. There's also a scout class scattershot, but the scout class are small and I don't usually collect those. Check the rest out on Seibertron.com for details.
